Kohli and Rahane lead Indian batting on Day 1 – IND vs ENG Test Series: Match 3

At the end of day’s play, Indian team managed to put up a total of 307 runs with a loss of 6 wickets. Skipper Virat Kohli (97 runs) was again the top scorer for team India, missing his 23rd test hundred by just 3 runs. Kohli and Rahane added 159 runs for the 4th wicket partnership. Rahane (81 runs) lost his wicket to Broad, thanks to a brilliant catch by Cook in slips.

Rishabh Pant who is playing his first test match was at the crease, batting at 22. Hardik Pandya was bit unlucky and lost his wicket on the last ball of the day. Ashwin, Shami, Ishant Sharma, and Bumrah are still to bat.

Earlier, England’s skipper Joe Root won the toss and invited India to bat first. Opening batsmen Shikhar Dhawan (35 runs) and KL Rahul (23 runs) added 60 runs before Dhawan lost his wicket to Chris Woakes. At one stage India was 82/3, but Kohli and Rahane took the innings forward, both scoring their half centuries.

For England, Chris Woakes was the top bowler, picking up 3 wickets. Adil Rashid once again picked up the important wicket of Kohli.

India would be satisfied with their batting performance. If India can add 60-70 runs to their score tomorrow, they would be in a strong position.
