IPL 2019: Salary of players retained by Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR IPL

After a decent outing in the previous edition, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released eight of their players while retained other 13 ahead of IPL 2019.

The two-time champions of the cash-rich league, last season, made wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik, the captain of their side and he didn’t disappoint both with his bat and as a skipper. They though lacked depth in the middle-order and quality pacers, costing them a chance to win the trophy for the third time.

The Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise would be wanting to get things done in the auction and hence succeed in the event, next year. They have 12 slots free, including seven Indian and five overseas and the remaining salary cap of 15.20 crore for the scheduled auction on December 18 in Jaipur.

There are also a lot of speculations that Gautam Gambhir might find his way back into the KKR squad, but that remains to be seen. The Knight Riders currently have one of the most deadly opening batting combinations in the tournament and will not want to tamper with it in any way.

Below is the salary of players retained by KKR for IPL 2019:

  1. Chris Lynn – ₹9.6 crore
  2. Sunil Narine – ₹8.5 crore
  3. Dinesh Karthik – ₹7.4 crore
  4. Andre Russell – ₹7 crore
  5. Robin Uthappa – ₹6.4 crore
  6. Kuldeep Yadav – ₹5.8 crore
  7. Piyush Chawla – ₹4.2 crore
  8. Nitish Rana – ₹3.4 crore
  9. Kamlesh Nagarkoti – ₹3.2 crore
  10. Shivam Mavi – ₹3 crore
  11. Shubman Gill – ₹1.8 crore
  12. Rinku Singh – ₹80 lakh
  13. Prasidh Krishna – ₹20 lakh

Prithvi Shaw ruled out of first Test against Australia with ankle injury

Prithvi Shaw injured

Team India suffered a massive blow on Friday as their opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia in Adelaide.

Shaw hurt his ankle while trying to take a catch on Day 3 of the ongoing warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI and was carried off the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Prithvi Shaw injury

The 19-year-old, fielding on the deep mid-wicket boundary, caught a shot from Australian opener Max Bryant just inside the rope and then tried to flick the ball back into play as he fell over.
Shaw grimaced and looked to be in plenty of pain as medical staff rushed to be with him.

“Shaw underwent scans this morning and the reports revealed a lateral ligament injury. Shaw will be unavailable for the First Test against Australia in Adelaide. He will undergo an intensive rehabilitation program to hasten the recovery and be available for selection at the earliest,” BCCI said in a release.

Prithvi Shaw

Shaw’s injury means that Murali Vijay and KL Rahul will be India’s openers in the Adelaide Test. Vijay, who had an indifferent series against England and was dropped for the last two Tests on the tour, has a good Test record in Australia. He scored 482 runs (1 hundred, 4 fifties) on India’s last tour, being one of the kingpins of their impressive showing with the bat.

Sunil Gavaskar picks his India playing XI for the Adelaide Test

Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Murali Vijay

A lot would be on the stake when India take on Australia in the upcoming 4-match Test series starting from December 6. Virat Kohli & Co. will be aiming to script history on the tour Down Under with a formidable bowling attack at their disposal backed by a strong batting line-up.

However, ahead of the first Test scheduled to be played in Adelaide, a number of former players from both the countries have started coming up with their respective team’s playing XI. After former Australian captain Ricky Ponting picked his own eleven players to compete with India, it’s time for former India captain Sunil Gavaskar to reveal his choice.

The 69-year-old legend has picked his India XI for the Adelaide Test and it includes Prithvi Shaw and Murali Vijay as openers; Cheteshwar Pujara at No.3; captain Kohli at 4; vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane at No.5; wicketkeeper Rishabha Pant at No.6 and five bowlers in form of Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

Rohit Sharma, who is one of the leading run-scorer for India in limited-overs format this year, is not there in the playing XI as presented by Gavaskar. Aaj Tak sports editor Vikrant Gupta has revealed Gavaskar’s playing XI through a post on Twitter.

With Kohli in terrific form and bowlers firing in all cylinders, Team India will be looking to create history on the Australian soil. The visitors tied the T20I series 1-1 to share the spoils and will be looking to make an impact in the longest format of the game next.

Prithvi Shaw suffers ankle injury during tour match against CA XI at the SCG

Prithvi-Shaw (1)

India suffered a serious injury blow ahead of their first Test against Australia after opener Prithvi Shaw suffered an ankle injury on day three of team’s tour match against Cricket Australia XI in Sydney.

Shaw rolled his left ankle while attempting a catch on the deep mid-wicket boundary. The 19-year-old took the catch off CA XI opener Max Bryant, but landed awkwardly with his left ankle bending 90-degrees inwards underneath him, and he tumbled to the ground and over the rope.

The six took Bryant to his half-century, but the focus was on Shaw as he immediately grabbed his left ankle as team medical stuff from both sides rushed to the aid of the young batsman.

He was then chaired off the field by India physiotherapist Patrick Farhart and a support staff member into the SCG’s away team dressing room as the tour match resumed.

Shaw left the venue via a motorised stretcher, with captain Virat Kohli rushing from the field to check on his welfare. The BCCI has updated that Shaw was taken to a local hospital for scans.

Shaw, who made a Test century on debut last month against the West Indies, struck a sublime 66 from 69 balls on day two.

IPL 2019: Salary of players retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore

Despite not winning any IPL trophy in their eleven years of participation, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will continue to dominate the charts of stardom and fan base for yet another season.

One of the main reasons behind such humongous fan base is the presence of their captain Virat Kohli and his partner in crime AB de Villiers.

Life as always for them will not be easy in the 2019 IPL edition, which probably will be conducted outside India.

Ahead of the new season, RCB have let Mandeep Singh leave to Kings XI Punjab in exchange of Marcus Stoinis, which seems like a pretty interesting deal. Stoinis has been a key figure for the Melbourne Stars over the years in the Big Bash and will be eager to continue the good form in the IPL.

Below is the salary of players retained by RCB for IPL 2019:

  1. Virat Kohli – ₹17 crore

  3. Marcus Stoinis (Traded) – ₹6.2 crore

IPL 2019: Salary of players retained by Mumbai Indians

mumbai-indians

Mumbai Indians (MI) finished fifth in IPL 2018 and had an average campaign, with no memorable wins. Their batting order took some time to settle; it was only after Rohit Sharma demoted himself to No. 4 that they managed to put runs on the board steadily.

Kieron Pollard was a big disappointment, and his replacement, Ben Cutting was terribly underutilized.

The Mumbai-based franchise is expected to have a new look in IPL 2019 as quite a few of the big names will be up for grabs during the players’ auction next month.

Recently, Quinton de Kock was traded off to the three-time champions in an all-money deal.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, who bought de Kock for ₹ 2.8 crore at the 2018 auctions, sold him to Mumbai Indians at the same price. To offset the deal, MI released Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman, who was bought for Rs 2.2 crore and Sri Lankan offspinner Akila Dananjaya, who was bought for Rs 50 lakh in the players’ auction.

Below is the salary of players retained by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2019:

  1. Adam Milne – ₹75 lakh
  2. Aditya Tare – ₹20 lakh
  3. Anukul Roy – ₹20 lakh
  4. Ben Cutting – ₹2.2 crore
  5. Evin Lewis – ₹3.8 crore
  6. Hardik Pandya – ₹11 crore
  7. Ishan Kishan – ₹6.2 crore

Farokh Engineer picks Parthiv Patel ahead of Rishabh Pant for Test matches

Farokh Engineer

India is on the tour of Australia with experienced Parthiv Patel and rookie Rishbah Pant as their two-wicket keepers in the squad and Farokh Engineer has backed the Gujarat player to play in Test matches.

While Parthiv last played in South Africa earlier this year, the youngster Pant made his Test debut during the England tour thanks to Dinesh Karthik’s poor outing. The 21-year-old impressed everyone by getting off the mark in his Test career with a six over the bowler’s head. He also smacked an aggressive century in the fifth and final game where India were set an improbable target to chase down.

While speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony of the 1886 Trophy at the Parsee Gymkhana, Engineer said, “India will never have a better chance of beating Australia. They are a pretty ordinary team at the moment, without Smith and Warner and we should make the best of this opportunity.”

When asked who is better among Parthiv and Pant for the wicketkeeping role, Engineer said, “Well I would go for a youngster. Rishabh Pant has shown lot of promise in batting. Parthiv is still fit. I think the best keeper should play Test match, ODI cricket a better batsman (can play). Rishabh is certainly my choice for ODIs but for a Test someone like Parthiv will be better, although he is 35”.

The 80-year-old also lashed out at the team’s approach towards the wicket-keepers in the modern game. He believed that at least in the Tests, one should be a wicket-keeper first and then the batsman which is not the case and is costing the teams big time.

“Unfortunately, we produce batsmen-keepers these days and not wicketkeeper-batsmen. In my time, you had to be a wicketkeeper first. You cannot let it side down. Even if you score big runs, but drop catches, it will cost you 200 runs. You have to be a wicketkeeper first,” Engineer added.

Suresh Raina gets an adorable birthday message from his wife Priyanka

Suresh Raina, Priyanka

India cricketer Suresh Raina turned 32 on Tuesday, and social media was flooded with birthday wishes for the southpaw. But it was his wife Priyanka’s message which stood out.

Priyanka posted a picture of them together and wrote: “Though we are two very different people but we are so made for each other… I love the music and you can sing so well … I love travelling and you can plan so well… I love to stay miles away from the kitchen and thank goodness you can cook so well … what else could I ask for? Wish you an amazing birthday my love @sureshraina3. Thanks for always being my support system & loving me unconditionally! HappyBirthday #happybirthdaymylove.”

Earlier, she posted a picture collage of their daughter Gracia and captioned it: “She can’t wait to give you the card and blow out all the candles @sureshraina3 #happybirthday #happybirthdaypapa #itsmypapasbirthday.”

Raina married his lady love on April 3, 2015. Raina and Priyanka were childhood friends and a secret wedding in Delhi tied these buddies together in the sacred knot.

While a return in Team India’s blue jersey looks difficult for Raina, he will continue to don the yellow jersey for Chennai Super Kings in the 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). He has put several memorable performances for the franchise in his long and esteemed association.

Ricky Ponting picks his Australia playing XI for first Test against India

Ricky Ponting, Australia playing XI

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has picked his nation’s playing XI for the first Test of the 4-match series against India starting from December 6.

Ponting has backed Aaron Finch to open for Australia in Adelaide. He has however pushed the left-handed batsman Usman Khawaja to No. 3 spot despite his success as an opener against Pakistan in the UAE last month.

“If the coach asked Aaron Finch where he’d rather bat, I’m sure he’d say he’d want to open. Finch is a bit of an anomaly really that the last few years he’s done most of his batting for Victoria in the middle order. Then because they go to the UAE where conditions probably weren’t going to be that new-ball friendly they gave him the chance to open. So he deserves to stay in the team and open.

“He’s had a lot of success around the world opening the batting in T20s and one-day internationals – if he can go in with a similar mindset and not worry too much about opening the batting in a Test match in Australia against the red ball, I’m sure he’ll have some success,” Ponting said in his recent interview.

Ponting also believes Australia should hand a Test cap to Marcus Harris, who has been prolific in four Shield games this season, amassing 437 runs at an astonishing average of 87.

“I remember when he (Harris) first came into the WA (Western Australia) side, speaking to Justin Langer about him and he thought he was potentially an Australian player in the making,” Ponting explained.

“Things didn’t really work out for him in WA (but) he decides to move to Victoria and his last few seasons have been very good. No batsmen have really dominated domestic Sheffield Shield cricket over the last few years but if you look at the numbers and the way he’s performed this year, he deserves his chance to be opening the batting.”

Talking about Khawaja, Ponting said: “I’ve been a huge fan of Khawaja’s for a long time, probably outspokenly so, a lot of people have been quite critical of him over the years.”

“Sometimes there’s guys you just have to stick with, you just have to pick them and give them a go. I know he had a bad run in the subcontinent but so did I, for the first part of my career.

“Suddenly you start to work it out and like he showed in the UAE, he played one of the all-time great rear-guard innings an Australian has ever played. Let’s hope it’s the making of him, not just for this summer but for the next five or so years,” he further opined.

As expected, there were no surprises in Ponting’s bowling line-up as he picked Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood for the Adelaide Test.

Ricky Ponting’s Australia XI for the Adelaide Test:

Marcus Harris, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Tim Paine (c/wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.

Cricketing fraternity wishes Suresh Raina on his 32nd birthday

suresh-raina

Birthday wishes poured in for Indian cricketer Suresh Raina from across the cricketing fraternity as the attacking left-hander turned 32 on Tuesday (November 27).

Raina is the first Indian to score a century in all three formats of the game. He is also fondly called “Mr. IPL” by his fans for the immense contribution with the bat for Chennai Super Kings, across several seasons. He has scored over 400 runs in almost easy and every edition of the tournament till date. His presence is also supremely on top when one considers some of the prime batting records in the event.

Raina, who clears the field with a swashbuckling flourish when at the top of his game, scored a 33-run over to pacer Parvinder Awana of Kings XI Punjab in 2014, which is the second most expensive over in the history of IPL after Chris Gayle’s 37 runs to Prasanth Parameswaran in 2011.

Here’s how cricketing fraternity wished Suresh Raina:
