Indian pacer Munaf Patel, who was a part of the World Cup winning team in 2011, has decided to call it quits from all forms of cricket. The 35-year-old, who is set to play in the T10 league in Dubai later this month, last played for India in 2011.
“There is no regret; after all the cricketers I played with have retired,” Munaf told The Indian Express. “Only Dhoni is left! So, there is no sadness as such. Everyone’s time is up; I would have been sad had others been playing and I had quit.
“There is no special reason, age is not on my side, fitness is not the same. Youngsters are there waiting for chances and it doesn’t look nice if I keep hanging on. The main thing is there is no motivation left. I was part of World Cup winning team in 2011; there can’t be a greater high than that,” he added.
Munaf was last seen in action in the IPL last year, where he played two games for the Gujarat Lions. He retires with an experience of 13 Tests, 70 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
In domestic cricket, Munaf had represented Baroda and Gujarat. He has an average of 24.43 in First-class cricket with 231 wickets from 69 matches to his name. He had also played 140 List A matches and 97 T20s.
Munaf earned his best bowling figures of 4 for 25 in Test cricket while playing against England in March, 2006.
