WATCH: Daryl Mitchell controversially given out lbw despite inside edge and DRS

Daryl Mitchell

The Decision Review System (DRS) was introduced in cricket to overturn the on-field howlers from the umpires. But during the second T20I between New Zealand and India at the Eden Park in Auckland, the third umpire Shaun Haig used all the technology to give Daryl Mitchell out wrongly.

Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, who was at the non-striker’s end, was left stunned by the decision before getting involved in a discussion with the on-field umpires and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

It was in the sixth delivery of the sixth over of the match, when Mitchell was on strike and Krunal Pandya was bowling. Krunal bowled a length delivery, which came back sharp to struck Mitchell’s pad as the on-field umpire raised his finger and gave him out. Surprised with the decision, the batsman straight away signalled that the ball had kissed the edge of his willow and took the DRS.

The Hotspot showed a slight edge and when everyone thought the decision will be overturned. The on-field umpire raised his finger leaving the Kiwi camp in shear shock.
