Asia Cup 2018: Deepak Chahar called up as a back up for injured Hardik Pandya

Deepak Chahar

Right-arm medium-pace bowler Deepak Chahar has been added to India squad as a back up for injured Hardik Pandya for the ongoing Asia Cup, as reported in The Times of India.

Chahar was a part of India’s T20I squad for the series against England and made his debut in the third and the final match, finishing with figures of 43/1. He was recently part of India ‘A’ in the Quadrangular series.

With Chahar being added to India squad, Rajasthan will miss out his services in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He came into the reckoning after picking 10 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 for the title champions, Chennai Super Kings.

Hardik Pandya injured against Pakistan

Meanwhile, Pandya suffered an injury during the Group A league match of the Asia Cup 2018 against Pakistan. The 24-year-old all-rounder fell during his followthrough while bowling and had to be stretchered out of the field.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did give an update on him but it is yet to be confirmed whether he will be fit to play in India’s next game against Bangladesh.

If Pandya failed to recover well in time, Chahar might be handed a debut ODI cap straightaway against Bangladesh.

India will face Bangladesh (September 21), Pakistan (September 23) and Afghanistan (September 25) in the Super 4 stage.
