Reports: AB de Villiers to be appointed as RCB captain for IPL 2019

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise is desperate to change their fortunes in the next season of Indian Premier League (IPL). They are yet to put their hands on the elusive trophy. And ahead of the 12th edition of the tournament, they have already named Gary Kirsten as their coach replacing Daniel Vettori and have retained Ashish Nehra in the coaching staff.

However, they have made yet another biggest change to the setup by appointing the former Proteas cricketer AB de Villiers as the captain of the team replacing Virat Kohli.

According to reports in Karnataka’s Suvarna News and News 18, Kohli has been removed from the captaincy by the franchise following yet another poor season for the team. De Villiers will replace him at the helm and will be available for the whole season as he has retired from international cricket now. Kohli has been leading the franchise since 2013 but they haven’t managed to win the tournament even once ever since the inception of the IPL.

Will AB de Villiers change the fortunes of RCB?

If indeed AB de Villiers is appointed the captain, it remains to be seen if he will be able to lead them to the much-coveted trophy. The biggest thing for the franchise is Mr. 360ยบ will be fresh and available for the whole season next year.

The former Proteas skipper was in amazing form in the IPL this year and it left everyone perplexed as he announced the international retirement soon after the tournament. He was determined on winning the ICC Cricket World Cup for his country but even that trophy eluded him during his illustrious career.
