D’Arcy Short rewrote history when he smashed a record-breaking double-century in Australian One-day domestic competition on Friday.
Short scored 257 off 148 deliveries to register the highest score by an Australian in one-day cricket which is also the third highest in the format’s history.

His 257 was the reason Western Australia piled up 387-all out against Queensland in the ongoing JLT Cup at the Hurstville Oval in Sydney. Short’s knock featured 15 fours. He also blasted 23 sixes – the most by any batsman in one-day cricket’s history.
The 28-year-old left-hander raced to his hundred off 83 deliveries. He then sprinted to his next hundred taking just 45 deliveries.
Short kept getting better and to reach 250 from 200, he took just 16 balls.

When he was finally dislodged, Short had recorded the third highest total in men’s one-day history after Surrey’s Ali Brown (268 vs Glamorgan) and India’s Rohit Sharma (264 vs Sri Lanka). He thus became the fourth Australian in men’s cricket to score a one-day double-century after Ben Dunk, Phillip Hughes and Travis Head. His 257 is the best from his country, surpassing the previous best set by Dunk’s 229.
