Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur ruled out of Asia Cup 2018; Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar and Siddarth Kaul named replacements

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and right-arm fast bowlers Deepak Chahar and Siddarth Kaul have been added to the Indian squad for the remainder of ongoing Asia Cup 2018 in place of the injured trio of Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Thursday.

Pandya suffered an acute lower back spasm during the game against Pakistan on Wednesday. In his follow through while bowling the 18th over of the first innings, Pandya seemed to have felt something in his back. He then lay flat on the ground for a long time as players surrounded and checked on him. Indian physio Patrick Farhart ran out to attend to the all-rounder, after which he had to be stretchered off.

Pandya was able to stand up once he was back in the dressing room and was made to work on his shoulder and back movements and was monitored by the BCCI medical staff, only to be ruled out of the ongoing tournament the next day.

The BCCI release also read that Thakur experienced right hip and groin soreness after the game against Hong Kong, while left-arm spinner Axar injured his left index finger while fielding in the game against Pakistan. Axar was then sent for scans and the results showed that he had a tendon tear.

India will next play Bangladesh on Friday in Dubai.
