The auction for the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) took place in Jaipur on Tuesday (December 18) and quite a significant amount of players went under the hammer.
A total of ₹106.8 crore was spent in the auction and 60 players in total were sold out of 351, where 40 were Indians (capped and uncapped) and 20 were the overseas players.
Out of the 20 overseas slots available for the auction, six were sealed by the Caribbean players including Shimron Hetmyer, Carlos Brathwaite, Nicholas Pooran, Oshane Thomas, Keemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford.
However, there were a number of surprises throughout the event and it kept everyone on their toes. A number of prominent names including the likes of Brendon McCullum, Dale Steyn, Jason Holder, Alex Hales, Corey Anderson and others went unsold. On the contrary, unknown players like Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Dube and Prayas Ray Barman attracted significant bids, raising a lot of eyebrows.
