Indian opening batsman in Test cricket KL Rahul had recently appeared on a popular talk show “Koffee with Karan”, which is hosted by Bollywood director and producer Karan Johar.
Rahul and his partner in crime Hardik Pandya had a lot of fun on the show while revealing some of their personal secrets. However, when things became serious, the talented 26-year-old cricketer let everyone know of the startling fact that his parents aren’t happy about the choice of his career at all.
He revealed that both of his parents are professors and they wanted him to become an engineer like his sister. They were unhappy with his career choice and still aren’t the happiest when he scores a century.
Rahul also added that his mother and father were the happiest when he got a “stable job” in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
“My mum, she still gives me grief that she doesn’t have an engineering certificate on the wall. And I tell her that I play for the country and you’re still worried. I got a job with the Reserve Bank of India recently, a couple of years ago. That’s when they were the happiest. Not when I got 100s, not when I won games for the country. They obviously are happy but the happiest they have been is when I got a job, a stable job,” said Rahul on the show.
It is quite interesting that Rahul went against his parents choice to breathe life into his dream and slowly and steadily has become one of the most followed cricketers in the fraternity. Though Rahul will love it if his parents too laud him for his cricketing career in the end.
