Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Cheteshwar Pujara replies with a maximum after being sledged by Manish Pandey, Srinivas Sharath

Cheteshwar Pujara SIX

During the second semi final of the ongoing Ranji Trophy between Karnataka and Saurashtra at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka captain Manish Pandey and wicket-keeper batsman Srinivas Sharath were heard passing comments to Saurashtra’s top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara.

It all happened during the 47th over of Saurashtra’s innings when Pujara was preparing to face Karnataka all-rounder Shreyas Gopal.

“One lazy step-out and we have him boys,” Pandey was heard as saying from his fielding position at first slip.

While Pandey hinted at his team getting the wicket if the batsman steps out, Sharath was of the opinion that wickets will fall in cluster. “That time of the day where wickets are going to fall in cluster boys. One good ball and we have him here,” Sharath said.

Pujara, who generally is quite calm and goes about his business quietly, decided to give a reply in his own style. The first delivery of the over bowled by Gopal was on leg stump and Pujara rocked back on the back foot and pulled it into the stands for a maximum.

While Karnataka players attempt to distort Pujara’s focus went unsuccessful in that over, the batting stalwart was eventually dismissing by pacer Abhimanyu Mithun in the 55th over. Pujara scored 45 runs off 99 balls with the help of three fours and a six.
