AB de Villiers

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers who will be taking part in the inaugural season of Mzansi Super League (MSL) starting from next month, is extremely excited over making a comeback to cricket after a lengthy lay-off.

De Villiers had announced a sudden retirement from international cricket earlier in May 2018 leading to shock amongst fans all over the world. But with the Protean League, the maverick’s supporters will get a chance to see their favourite player in action once again.

“I am extremely excited. I haven’t played cricket for a while, but I am getting back into the swing of things. I have had these kinds of breaks before and it is always a challenge to get fit and hit balls again. I am really looking forward to that, and what will be a really good challenge in the Mzansi Super League,” De Villiers was quoted by Sports24 as saying.

Despite his retirement from international cricket, AB continues to be one of the biggest draws in T20 franchise cricket all over the world and he wasn’t unaware of the extra responsibility of promoting the Mzansi Super League, which is still in its infancy, to a popular spectacle across the globe.

“It is a huge step in the right direction for Cricket South Africa and South African cricket. As a unit, we’ll be looking to not just pull this tournament off, but make it a great spectacle for fans around the world to enjoy,” said De Villiers

Considered one of the best batsmen of his era, De Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is for his country scoring an incredible 20,014 runs, including 8,765 in Tests, 9,577 in ODIs and 1,672 in T20Is. He will be representing the Tshwane Spartans alongside England skipper Eoin Morgan. His team also has South African internationals such as Lungi Ngidi, Dean Elgar and Theunis de Bruyn.

The MSL will be played from November 16 to December 16, 2018.
