Virat Kohli surpassed fellow Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar as the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs, but the West Indies showed some character to snatch a thrilling tie in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday night.

West Indies batsman Shai Hope scored an unbeaten century and struck the final ball for four as they finished 321-7 in reply to India’s 321-6 in the second ODI of the 5-match series.

Following up on his 140 in the opening match in Guwahati, Kohli was unbeaten on 157 for his 37th ODI century. The 29-year-old broke the record of Tendulkar, who had reached the milestone in 259 innings. Kohli took just 205, becoming the 13th cricketer to complete 10,000 ODI runs.

Meanwhile, Hope’s unbeaten 123 and a 94 off 64 balls from Shimron Hetmyer put the visitors in reach of the target; the duo adding 143 after their side was reduced to 78/3.

Windies required 66 from the last 12 overs and appeared comfortably placed to tie the series at 1-1 but ended up needing 14 off fast bowler Umesh Yadav’s final over and then five with the final delivery.

Hope hit his 10th four just wide of third man.
