Prithvi Shaw unleashes ‘Beast Mode’ against Mohammed Siraj in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Prithvi Shaw

Teenager Prithvi Shaw, who joined the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinal against Hyderabad, after a brilliant debut show in the Test-series against West Indies, hit an explosive half-century.

The 18-year-old smashed 61 runs off just 44 balls during Mumbai’s chase of 247 runs. Shaw who opened the innings with Rohit Sharma hit 8 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. He added 73 runs for the first wicket with Rohit who contributed only 17.

Earlier, Hyderabad had posted 246/8 in their 50 overs thanks to a century from Rohit Rayudu (121 off 132 balls).

Prithvi Shaw vs Mohammed Siraj

In the 8th over of the match, Shaw was up against Hyderabad pacer Mohammed Siraj. Two exciting young prospects in Indian cricket had the responsibility of ensuring their team an initial advantage in the knockout game. During the run-chase, Shaw once attempted to hit a short delivery off Siraj over the wicketkeeper’s head but failed to do make any connection and the bowler had a word or two for him.

Shaw calmly responded to Siraj’s sledge and sent him back to his bowling mark with a smile. He then hit the fourth ball of the over through the same region for a six. It was a bouncer, he jumped onto his toes and just glided the ball over the ropes.

Siraj wasn’t done yet and bowled another short of length delivery to Shaw. The 18-year-old with his experience was already expecting the fast bowler to do something of that sort and played this one over the fine-leg fielder for another maximum.

With this six Shaw also completed his fifty and maintained his streak of scoring at least a half century in each of the four matches he played in Vijay Hazare Trophy this season.

On the last delivery bowled by Siraj, which was a half-volley, Shaw scored another boundary and this time on the on-side.
